What are my constitutional rights?

If you are a U.S. citizen you have the right to own a gun. Each state has its own regulations for guns, two of the most heavily regulated states are New York and California. For each state click here.

The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects a right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The American Bar Association has noted that there is more disagreement and less understanding about this right than of any other current issue regarding the Constitution.

The exact text reads: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." More information can be found here.

Why should I own a gun?

If you are responsible person who is intent on protecting his or her friends and family then it will be in your best interests to own a gun. If something unfortunate happens, you will be responsible for their safety at that moment in time, where calling for help is not an option or may take too long. If you are up to the task, there is a lot to learn, especially the legal situations where you are able to shoot in self defense. You will also have a lot to learn about guns, calibers and hone your accuracy with regular trips to the range.

Ultimately you get peace of mind knowing that you can do something, not just run and hide when it comes to the safety of your loved ones.

What do I do first?

Visit your local gun store and look around learn more, go to the target range and try out various calibers and types of guns. You start by firing a 22 LR pistol and work your way up. After a while you can decide whether you want to be a CCW (concealed weapon) holder or just buy a gun for home defense.
